Using the Windows System Tray to notify your users of open VISUAL tasks

VISUAL Tasks are generated automatically from processes you define in ECN (Engineering Change Notice), Purchase Requisition, and Workflow modules.

To view the list of tasks assigned to you or your team, you need to go to the TASK MAINTENANCE module which you can access from the PURCHASING or ENG/MFG menus

This is a great feature of VISUAL as it allows you to keep track of things that need to get done and who should be doing them.

But it's useless if your users forget to go into TASK MAINTENANCE to check on their open tasks and see whether they have new items that have been assigned to them.

So what can you do?

Besides getting your big stick, you can configure VISUAL to add a task reminder indicator to the Window Tray to let users know they have open tasks to get busy on.  The users can then click on the indicator to call up the TASK module with all their open tasks.

BTW...The system tray is located in the Windows taskbar --> that area usually at the bottom right corner next to the clock.  It contains small icons for easy access to system functions such as antivirus, printer, sound volume, battery status, network settings, and more.

You can enable this feature in the visual.ini file and/or in Preference Maintenance

My comment is not about this specific post...I will have to study it. My comment is "thank you" for keeping your nuggets site vital. Your nuggets, along with the VMIUG-TEC site, have opened my eyes to more possibilities with Infor 10 Express/Visual than anyone at our company conceived. Some at our company saw Infor as a poor choice for ERP, unable to deliver what we needed most. Nugget by nugget, more of my colleagues are seeing that the system can deliver if we ask the right questions and understand its design, from database to interface. Not perfect, but with your help, continuously improving and I think the addition of your "guest" editors is an excellent move. Much of what passes as "obvious" for super users like Peter Boers can be profitable revelations to others.
Even discussion of basic features help renew my own conviction that, for our company, Infor, well used, is plenty.
I am heartened to see so many fresh posts.
Keep up the good work.

Thank you for your kind words.

The blog has certainly taken a life of its own over the years. I've always wanted the site to be more than just a "Q&A" type of VISUAL site.

In fact, I originally started it out as a means to categorize the various tips and tricks (mostly undocumented) that I've come across throughout my "VISUAL" years.

There's a lot of VISUAL users out there - some "super" users and some "not-so super" users. Hey, we all have to start somewhere! Our common ground is VISUAL - we have the same issues and challenges.

In the end, I'd like to be site to exchange VISUAL ideas, experiences and solutions. Having guest authors is just an extension to that. And I can't thank them enough for their efforts.
